Best Way to Wash Face for Acne Clear Skin | Acne Treatment Tips

Posted on 25 June 2009

If you have acne prone skin then you probably have been told by friends, relatives, and even doctors that you should keep your skin clean and healthy. But some people tend to over cleanse their face. This over washing  is a strict no-no. A recent study made by researchers from University of Oklahoma showed that over cleaning the face and applying too many creams and moisturizers can do more harm than good. According to research, no amount of cleaning or moisturizing would help stop acne, if your skin is genetically prone to breakouts.

There is no harm in keeping your face clean. But, you needn’t spend too much money on acne treatment cleansers and lotions to keep your face clean. Using several different chemical products can harm your skin and aggravate your acne breakouts. A good, mild face wash and some lukewarm water is enough to keep your face clean and free of acne breakouts.

In general, people believe that acne is caused because the face is not clean. However, this is just a myth. Cleanliness has no direct connection with the development of acne. Acne is caused due to the excess production of sebum and  the subsequent clogging of pores. Cleaning the face is recommended by dermatologists to help in controlling the clogging of pores by eliminating and controlling excess oil. But too much of washing and scrubbing can be harmful.

Use your acne treatment as directed

Some people believe that washing their face and cleaning it thoroughly with the acne treatment medication several times a day can help in treating acne. First of all, you should try and ease your mind of the superfluity of cosmetic products which promise to give the world, but only succeed in taking away money.

Secondly, apply your acne treatment solution as directed. If your dermatologist asks you to cleanse your face with the acne medication gel twice a day then do as directed. Do not be tempted to over clean hoping to get quick results.

Also, using different types of cleansing bars, gels, and lotions won’t help. Rubbing your face too often with soap can aggravate your acne instead of curing it. This scrubbing can also cause more infections on your face. Therefore follow a simple acne treatment procedure. Wash your face twice a day, and apply your acne medication; or whichever skincare regimen your dermatologist prescribes you.

If you don’t have an acne treatment regimen, then consult your dermatologist to find out what should be the right cleansing process for your skin. Keep it simple to get the maximum benefits!

Are you sure that washing face just once a day will be enough? I mean there is so much pollution and dirt. I wash twice daily and exfoliate once a week as per my dermatologist’s advice.
