Is Benzamycin an Effective Acne Treatment?

Posted on 18 June 2009

Benzamycin is an effective acne topical treatment, which offers you the advantage of two powerful acne treatment medications – benzoyl peroxide and topical erythromycin. Benzamycin is generally used as an acne treatment method for mild to moderate acne vulgaris. It is also available with doctor’s prescription. Both benzoyl peroxide and topical antibiotics are highly effective acne treatments. When combined together, you get a more effective acne treatment system. This acne treatment medication is available in generic forms.

What makes Benzamycin an effective acne treatment?

Benzamycin is available in the form of acne treatment gel. It is topically applied to all areas that are affected by acne. Benzamycin cures breakouts by killing the acne producing bacteria called Propionibacterium acnes or P. acnes. Benzamycin seems to have a good effect on the inflammatory acne breakouts, like papules and pustules.

However, you must not expect any overnight improvement. This acne treatment system may take some time to show results. The acne may actually get a bit worse before starting to show improvements. This is very normal, so don’t be alarmed. Continue to use Benzamycin as an acne treatment medication in the same way as directed by your dermatologist.

How to properly use Benzamycin?

For better results, Benzamycin should be applied to the entire acne affected area, twice daily. Before applying the acne treatment product, cleanse your face well with a mild cleanser and pat your skin dry. Now apply a smooth layer of Benzamycin over the entire acne affected area. Do not use too much of the acne treatment medication, apply as directed. While applying Benzamycin on the face, stay away from the sensitive areas such as nose, lips, and eyes. This is because these areas tend to get irritated by this acne treatment medication. Here are some tips on how to use Benzamycin properly:

  • Before opting for a Benzamycin based acne treatment, let your dermatologist know if you are using any other acne treatment medications. It is not advisable to use Benzamycin when you are already using the over-the-counter acne treatment products.

  • If you are pregnant, nursing, or become pregnant while using the Benzamycin based product, then let your doctor know immediately.

  • Benzamycin has the tendency to bleach hair, clothes, etc. Remember to properly wash your hands after applying Benzamycin.

  • It is very essential to use a good moisturizer when you are on a acne treatment routine. Use a noncomedogenic or nonacnegenic moisturizer daily. This will help you to combat the dryness and flaking that is caused due to the application of Benzamycin.

  • Benzamycin causes photosensitivity in some. Therefore, if you are under a Benzamycin based acne treatment system then it is advisable that you use a strong sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun’s rays.
