Many people are not aware that there are actually different forms of acne breakouts. The acne breakouts, comedones, and blemishes start due to the blockages of pores with dirt, dead skin cells, and excess oil. Inflammation occurs when the bacteria infects a comedone, filling with pus.
It also occurs when the pimples are squeezed. Inflammation of acne is usually characterized by swelling, redness, and pain. There are four main types of inflamed acne blemishes:
Papules:
A red and inflamed abrasion on the surface of the skin is known as Papules. It doesn’t contain any white head or pus. This form of acne usually develops due to a high break in the follicle wall, thereby allowing bacteria and cellular debris to spill into the dermis. This may also develop when the pores get inflamed with the debris and oil or is squeezed. A papule may often get aggravated and turn into a pustule.
Acne Treatment: Squeezing a papule may worsen the acne breakout. In most cases, the papules heal without leaving an acne scar. The best acne treatment for this type of blemish is sulfur. Using this as acne treatment may help in further preventing papules from occurring.
Pustules:
Pustule is typical acne with a red and inflamed head. These types of acne blemishes vary in size. At times, a brownish comedonal core can occur as a cap over the pus head of the breakout. This white cap is made up of pus, sebaceous matter, and cellular debris. The pustules usually follow papules, after white blood cells attack.
Acne Treatment: This mild form of acne breakouts, also known as pustules can be treated at home using creams, cleansers, or lotions containing sulfur. However, if you have several pustules which are inflamed and severe, then consult a dermatologist for an effective acne treatment system.
Nodules:
Nodules are usually large and inflamed types of acne breakouts which occur deep within the dermis. They appear as a painful and hard lump under the skin. Where the papules occur at the skin surface, nodules usually appear deep within the skin.
Nodules develop when the wall of the follicle ruptures deep within the dermis. The infected debris from the follicle spreads into the dermis and contaminates the adjoining follicles. A nodule is an inflamed and severe type of acne breakout.
Acne Treatment: You must resist your temptation to squeeze or pick at the nodule. The infection can really be deep and it may lead to a bad acne scar. If your skin is too prone to this type of acne breakouts then see a dermatologist immediately.
Cysts:
Cysts are severe form of acne breakouts. They are usually large and inflamed lesions. Cysts mostly feel like soft and liquid-filled lumps under the surface of skin. Cysts can be really painful. If not treated effectively this may lead to severe acne scars.
Acne Treatment: If your skin is prone to cystic breakouts, then you must seek dermatologist help at once. Acne treatment for cysts mostly includes topical and oral prescription medications.
